On September 25, 1957, nine Black students, known as the "Little Rock Nine," courageously entered the previously all-white Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas. After the Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional, resistance to integration was fierce. These brave students faced violent mobs and needed protection from federal troops sent by President Dwight Eisenhower to ensure they could safely attend school. Their perseverance in the face of such opposition was a major moment in the Civil Rights Movement and a pivotal point in the struggle for equal education.
